Flexible under load

Natural fibre gives more than synthetic bags, which can shred under pressure.

Burlap Sandbag FAQs

What are burlap sand bags used for?

They are a common second line of defence against floodwater. Correctly filled, they form a border that directs water away from job sites, buildings and crews. Use them on their own or with polypropylene sand bags.

How much sand should I put in a burlap sand bag?

A typical burlap sand bag can hold up to 50 lb of sand, but 35 to 40 lb is ideal. A bag filled most of the way can settle into the bags around it and close the gaps water would flow through.

What is burlap made of?

Our burlap is jute fabric, made from the fibres of the jute plant. It is 100% natural and more flexible than synthetic bags, which can shred under pressure.

How should I store burlap sand bags?

Keep new, unused bags indoors away from sun, rain and soil. Store used bags out of direct sunlight. A tarp adds protection outdoors.

Do sand bags actually work?

Yes. Properly filled and placed sand bags act as a barricade that deflects running water around a structure. They may not make a watertight seal, but they are effective for most applications.
