Agriculture and Food Grade FAQs

What is an FIBC and how is it used in agriculture?

An FIBC is a large woven polypropylene bag designed to store and transport dry bulk materials such as grains, seeds, fertilizers and powders.

What is a food-grade bulk bag?

Food-grade FIBCs are made in certified facilities using virgin polypropylene and strict hygiene standards, so they are suitable for food ingredients. They go through extra quality checks, including metal detection, air washing and light table inspection.

What size bulk bags are used for agricultural products?

Common sizes range from 35 x 35 x 35 in to 40 x 40 x 60 in, depending on product density, the weight you need and your loading setup.

What is a baffle bulk bag?

Baffle bags, sometimes called form-stable or Q-bags, keep a square shape when filled. That makes them a good fit for export and tight loading space, and they are common with Canadian agri-food exporters. BWI stocks standard baffle bags and supplies specialty versions with liners, internal mesh and net baffles.

Do I need a food-grade bag for my product?

It depends on your product and local regulations. Check with your regulatory body and industry requirements. Food-grade bags are typically used for finished food products intended for people.

What should I use for moisture-sensitive products?

BWI recommends a PE liner. Some bags come with liners included, and additional liners are available. They also work as pallet covers.

What lifting options are available?

We stock 4-loop bags in corner-loop and cross-corner-loop styles, and supply tunnel-loop, single-loop, two-point and other designs for specialty applications.

Are bulk bags reusable?

Some FIBCs can be reused depending on their safety rating and condition. Always inspect bags before reuse. We support reuse where it is safe, at the end user’s discretion and risk.
